The start of a new year can feel both exciting and overwhelming. Getting your fitness goals decided for a successful start to the year is usually at the top of everyone's priority list. However, many of us tend to disregard the last few weeks of the end of the year like they don't matter. Well, I'm here to tell you that they DO matter and they Do count!

You might be thinking "Why bother? I'll start fresh in January". But the final weeks of the year are still important and can be your springboard into a successful new year. The holiday season doesn't mean you let your health and fitness goals slip away. You can still make meaningful progress in these final weeks of the year.

Every single ounce of effort you put in now can create momentum that carries you into January and beyond. Maintaining a routine (even if it looks slightly different at this time of year) helps you hit the ground running in the new year rather than starting from scratch. You'll already put yourself ahead of those who take the "I'll just start next year" approach.

You don't need to feel the pressure to completely overhaul your routine by the end of the year. Start with small changes that are manageable and align with your health and fitness goals. It could be as simple as going for a morning walk, opting for a few healthier snacks or fitting in a short workout during the holidays. Try to focus on consistency, not perfection. Allow yourself the enjoyment of the festive season, while still incorporating healthy habits. Find a balanced approach that will help you feel successful.

Use these last few weeks to reflect on all that you've achieved this year. Bring some self-awareness into your life by thinking about your fitness and nutrition choices throughout the year and how they impact your overall well-being - Whether that be positively or negatively. If you see room for improvement, course correct and start to make waves now toward the end of the year.

This time of year is of course a great opportunity to set realistic goals for the following year. Outline your goals by ensuring they are meaningful to you, realistic, and achievable, this will help motivate and inspire you. Begin to craft your roadmap to success. Share these goals with your friends, family, or fitness community to help keep you accountable and motivated. Surrounding yourself with support can make a huge difference in your ability to succeed. You might end up motivating others around you to set up their goals coming into the new year.

As this year nears the end and the new year begins, remember that every week of the year counts. Use this time to solidify good habits, set intentions for the new year, and finish the rest of this year strong.
